The BREIN foundation fights against the illegal exploitation of data carriers such as DVDs and/or CDs. In other words, BREIN acts against piracy. Employees of BREIN control the local markets to intercept illegal copies. People who are caught with this illegal business will have to bear in mind that BREIN will use all legal measures in the struggle against counterfeited products. In the Netherlands, the court may impose various measures, most of the time limited to a financial indemnification and the prohibition of any further selling of such goods. Sometimes even this is not enough. In such cases (and as a last resort) the court may impose constraint of the pirates. In this case as well. Incorrigible salesmen of illegal DVDs were caught several times. Before being detected again, they had even declared to stop this manner of acting. For the judge enough reason to order a (financial) penalty in the case of repetition. Next to this, the DVD-pirates may now face jail time up to 10 days for each month they are caught again with their illegal conduct.
