Yesterday the Dutch Second Chamber of Parliament decided on an amendment that would introduce a ban on advertisements of unhealthy products, like sweets, soft drinks and fast food. At least if this advertisement be aimed at children under 12 years old. There was no majority in parliament in favour of this amendment. The sweets and fast food industries can freely continue advertising their products with small children. Of course they must follow the rules applicable to this target group: no abuse of the lack of experience of kids, no misleading advertising, etc. These rules are set out in the Code for Advertising aimed at children.
