Entrepreneurs in the Netherlands often complain that there are so many collective management organizations. Therefore, it is not clear where a license can be obtained and for which kind of use a license is required. This will now (partially) change, with the website www.mijnlicentie.nl. This is an online one-stop-shop where a number of rights can be arranged at one time: music, television images and the right to copy texts.
The right to use music can be arranged through Buma and SENA, the right of using television images through Videma and the right to copy from books, magazines and newspapers can be acquired through Stichting Reprorecht. Not only can you obtain permission from the digital counter for all these organizations, but you can also manage your licenses there. Plus, receiving multiple bills from several organizations belongs to the past, because you can choose to receive a combined bill.
However, stay alert! This is just a collaboration between the four mentioned collective management organizations. For example, anyone who wants to release a CD, should generally contact Stemra separately in order to clear the reproduction rights. Other types of rights may be necessary to obtain and need to be arranged through the designated organization. This online helpdesk is certainly a useful step for business, as long as anyone will pay attention well enough to assure everything is arranged and all rights are cleared. If in doubt, we are happy to help!
