Verplichte waarschuwing kleurstoffen in snoep
4 juni 2010 - 'Dit product bevat azo-kleurstoffen. Kan de activiteit of oplettendheid van kinderen nadelig beïnvloeden.' Vanaf 20 juli 2010 zul je deze waarschuwing tegenkomen op etiketten van producten die azo-kleurstoffen* bevatten. De nieuwe verplichting volgt uit verordening EG 1333/2008.
Onderzoek van de Universiteit van Southampton zou aantonen dat er een verband bestaat tussen deze kleurstoffen en hyperactiviteit. Volgens critici bestond er helemaal geen noodzaak om de wetgeving rond E-nummers te veranderen. De zes azo-kleurstoffen zouden niet individueel getest zijn, waardoor niet duidelijk is welke azo-kleurstof hyperactiviteit veroorzaakt. Het Britse onderzoek is dus omstreden. Toch zullen fabrikanten van snoep, toetjes en limonade bij het gebruik van azo-kleurstoffen niet onder de verplichte waarschuwing uitkomen.
Veel fabrikanten hebben aangegeven op het gebruik van andere kleurstoffen over te stappen. Exit dus voor felgekleurde snoepjes!
